Mexican National Chili Cook-Off
The Mexican National Chili Cook Off has become a community tradition – 40 years strong and continuing to grow year after year.
The event kicks off when a parade of floats and bands leaves from the Ajijic malecon and makes its way along the carretera, ending their journey at the entrance to Tobolandia waterpark and the Mexican National Chili Cook Off. The main food events are the chili tasting and voting, plus the margarita and salsa contests.
You’ll also find a wide variety of other food offerings in the food area, where you may like to sit at a table and take in some of the entertainment. Mexican dancers, Mariachi performers, rock bands and much more appear throughout the weekend for your enjoyment. Vendors of art, crafts, clothing and jewelery abound, some local vendors and others from out of town, their wares a feast for the eyes!
The Mexican National Chili Cook Off is held on a February weekend and the funds raised from ticket sales and raffles go to eight charities here at Lakeside. In 2017, each of the sponsored charities received $40,000 pesos from the proceeds – so when you attend the Mexican National Chili Cook Off you will have a great day while also supporting a worthy cause indeed!
