Arroyo La Cristina #148, La Cristina, Ajijic, Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. CP 45920

A 100 plus year old Fig Tree soars over the street façade sheltering and embracing this Hacienda. It suddenly feels like we are in one of Mexico’s Colonial Cities like Queretero instead of Quiet Ajijic. Cantera pillars, wrought iron lantern lights and a moat speak of old world charm. What lies behind these beautiful walls will take your breath away

Hidden away down a quiet lane in West Ajijic past a bird and wildlife sanctuary we reach a true Ajijic Treasure that is only minutes from downtown Ajijic but is a world of its own.
Entering thru the metal grill gates we enter the star foyer with its clusters of hanging lights. Twelve Foot High Carved Antique Wood Double Doors Open and a curved and grilled wall lead you into the Hacienda Colonnade. The first of three flagstone courtyards features a spectacular stone fountain designed by award-winning sculpture and artist Fito Kundo Perez that fetched the top prize for design at the National Artists Fair in Mexico. The Hacienda is arranged in a U shape surrounding this focal point.
From the Colonnade we enter the Hacienda’s Great Room. A corner fireplace with an arching tropical mural of Flying Parrots in Jungle Foliage speaks to Mexico’s early days when Spanish settlers first arrived. I love how these leather Safari chairs embrace that theme. This home is being sold furnished and you will be viewing the current owners amazing furniture collection which is included in the sale as we tour. To the left we step down into the Palm Courtyard but let’s first explore the Hacienda Kitchen to our right.
The kitchen is a celebration of Mexican Tile and wood. A glass door leads back to the colonnade and this impressive carved wooden door leads to a more casual street entrance (a practical entry for those everyday necessities like groceries and staff). A fabulous kitchen Island is perfect as a prep area or even as a serving buffet. There are two copper sinks, one in the main kitchen and another in this side alcove with its imported Murano glass chandelier and a six burner stove. There is also a separate laundry pantry room. European charm with modern top-of-the-line appliances, including a Smeg stove and Bosch separate side-by-side refrigerator/freezer
A favorite space for breakfast is the Palm Court. This space is clear roofed and bridges the more causal Great Room and Kitchen Wing to the More Formal Living and Dining room wing. It features another fountain as well as a guest Half Bath. Tropical splendor in your own private paradise.
Double wrought iron French Doors take us up a step to the formal Living room with its brick barrel vault with a cupola dome and chandelier. The focal point is this double height baroque cantera fireplace with its hand carving. Didn’t I tell you this home had old world charm.
All of these room flow out to the Colonnade but we can also continue through the double arch to the dining room.
There is a tiled Hexigon cupola with chandelier that is reflected by the hexagon carved wooden grand dining table. Spanish sideboards, magnificent paintings, throned chairs and a coffered ceiling that reminds me of the famous church of Talpa de Allende.
The master and guest bedrooms are in their own wing and have private entrances to the colonnade. These are sanctuary spaces designed for restful slumber. Each have impressive soaring barrel vaults and grand chandeliers. The Guestroom is more than large enough for its two queen beds and twin wardrobes. It has its own ensuite bath that is larger than many living rooms with a lovely wall mural.
The master suite is impressive with its king bed, carved Spanish jewelry console and marching full length mirror. The Master Bath has a large walk in closet, Copper sink from Santa Clara del Cobre and a soaking bathtub as well as a spacious shower.
Next to the Master Suite and leading off the Fountain Courtyard is the entertaining Palapa. The imported temple gates from Bali speak of world travels. The Palapa has its own carved wooden entertaining bar with wine fridge and another guest half bath. In a corner open to the moon lit sky is a luxurious heated spa jacuzzi large enough for 8 with a cascade waterfall.
Hacienda Margarita has the appearance of a historic landmark building but was actually built in 2008 to modern building standards. It was designed and constructed to give the illusion of old-world charm with modern comfort like lightning fast Starlink Internet. The U shaped roofline has plenty of Cupolas for light and air. This is a home built to impress and entertain. Picture a large party with round linen covered tables clustered around the fountain and a dance floor in the lower entrance terrace. Cocktail tables along the colonnade and guests meandering thru the impressive spaces. Daily living in the quiet palm court and palapa and quiet restful evenings in the grand bedrooms.
Hacienda Margarita boasts custom design elements that are at once noble and delightful from the stressed and handstamped terracotta floor tiles (a pleasure for bare feet) to the hand stenciled door surrounds and murals. Crown moldings and pillars, hand-hewn beams with cantera trim, custom made wrought iron and glass doors.
This Impressive Hacienda is competitively priced at $750,000 US Dollars including a full furniture package of art and European antiques and reproduction pieces designed for this home. It features lavish entertaining spaces both inside and out. The Entire Home is a love letter to Colonial Mexico and just waiting for a Stylish new Owner
